after reading the post what kind of meal is that?!?! would you want to try their beer??

same old, same old!!

The poor could not just sit around and be lazy. They did not have servants to answer the door when they did not feel like getting up. They had to do it all by them self. They had no variety either. They had bread and beer everyday. The picture above is a picture of the wood handle they used to strain the beer. They did not have different breads to choose from though...oh no!! It was flat bread everyday. I could not handle the same thing everyday!!

Have you ever wanted a servant? One that would cook all your meals for you, clean your house and do all your responsiblities. The wealthy people in Ancient Egypt had that. They also had many options, like bread. They did not just have the same old bread every single day. I know i know...more about bread. That is like their whole life though. Their life depended on bread...wow bread had a big responsibility!!!

Think outside the barley

In Ancient Egypt they had three seasons. The flood, harvest, and farming. During the flood the Nile River deposited fertile mud. Which allowed the farmers to grow barley for their bread. Oh yay!! Just what they need more barley. Come on, be a little more creative with what you have. Even if it is just fruit flavored bread. Maybe try making the bread into pancakes or something. Try something other than the beer too. Try some fruit flavored water.

rooftop meals...and kitchen!! =D

The rich and ordinary people all ate their meals outside...normally. The ordinary people would eat and cook on their rooftops. Anybody want a slice of fly flavored bread. Ummm...not me!! To protect themselves from the sun and stuff they hung up linen around poles on their roof. That might be a little better. Thank god I do not have to eat on my roof. With me being a klutz I would fall off. I can already imagine it.

recipes...ones you probably will not use!!

The staple diet of the Ancient Egyptians was bread and beer. Well, you might think that is not that bad. The problem with the bread is how they make it. First, they make the flour. To make the flour they crush the grain and shake off the outside of the husks!! Icky!! Then they would ground the grain between two stones. Bits from those two stones would get cooked in with the bread. When they bit into the bread they would be chewing pieces of stone!!! The stone that got stuck inside the bread wore their teeth away!! After they ground the flour they mixed it with water and baked it. The Egyptians did not have yeast. The only way that yeast was in bread was if it grew there by itself. The other problem is how they make the beer. They would make the bread but, then they would put it into a big jar full of water. Then they would climb into the jar and stomp the bread until it dissolved. I do not want anything people's feet were all over!! The beer was still really lumpy. They used a wooden strainer to make it a little bit better. They had to use a straw or drink through a strainer.
